THE LAST REVEAL OF THE BLOCK 2020
The back courtyards are the last area to complete, making it one of the most grueling weeks on The Block. All stops were pulled out to deliver the best outdoor living space to win the coveted Domain cover pre-auction.
Like the front entrance decks, Outdure’s QwickBuild aluminium framing system was at the heart of supporting each contestant’s courtyard space. Given the ease and speed that QwickBuild can be installed, it meant finishing each ambitious project in record time was possible and it also allowed the contestants to create that critical indoor-outdoor flow.
The contestants chose from Outdure’s surface ranges to install onto QwickBuild – All our decking boards are made from recycled composite. ResortDeck looks like a freshly oiled timber hardwood, and like TimberTech is fully capped for moisture-resistance. TimberTech PRO Reserve range with its low gloss wood grain finish and solid profile has an industry-leading 30-year warranty and CasaDeck is our original board range with a matte finish and excellent non-slip rating. Outdure’s structural exterior tiles are porcelain vitrified, the Mineral series is perfect for a modern, minimal design, and the StoneInspire range has a classic marble finish.
HARRY & TASH 1920’S – POOL & ALFRESCO
Understated luxury
In keeping with the ResortDeck boards and Mineral Oasis Tiles at the front of their 1920’s home. Harry and Tash opted for a large ’tile deck’ area out from the living area and ResortDeck for the pool surrounds. Normally when creating a tiled/paved area over soil, levelling of the ground is required. This is done by excavation and/or back-filling, and often a concrete pad is needed, which is time-consuming for it to dry. In addition, it can be difficult to get a level finish with the interior floor and a ‘step down’ from the inside to the tiles is often needed.
Because time and budget was extremely tight, Harry and Tash needed a solution that would be fast and easy to install. Outdure’s QwickBuild framing system which supports decking, tiles, and even turf makes it easy to achieve a straight, level structure at the perfect height from the ground. Made from structural aluminium the framework spans further than timber so it means less footings and supports are required, plus the pavers simply fasten onto the frames so no grouting is required.
Harry and Tash nearly ran into trouble building the tile deck around the tree but because QwickBuild is lightweight
the frames could easily be repositioned. The result is a luxurious, multi-functional alfresco space which leads to the
pool area, it looks like no expense has been spared!

Eclectic, textural detailing
Seasoned The Block landscaper Dave Franklin designed an eclectic courtyard, side deck, and pool area space that
included a built-in BBQ, pizza oven, curved seating and planters, mosaic tile detailing. All spaces were constructed
with QwickBuild as the sub-structure including the organic shapes which featured the QwickBuild smooth curve
profile with the ResortDeck boards cut to fit. QwickBuild was also for the custom curved seating bench.
The warm grey tones of ResortDeck Seasalt look like a silvered off hardwood timber
but without the splinters or nails making it perfect for families and as Sarah said…
“It is the party area of house” and so was designed just for that!

QWICKBUILD SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Modern, clean lines
Shelley Croft loved Daniel and Jade’s simple and stylish design. The clever side courtyard features a Mineral Tile
insert to define the conversation zone in the deck and cleverly extends on from the inside spaces. The indoor-outdoor flow is again maximised with the large ResortDeck area, the recycled decking boards in Seasalt are perfect leading down to the pool area as they have an UltraShield capping for moisture-resistance.
QwickBuild is again the sub-structure throughout, the benefits of using the system in this kind of design include the multi-surface integration and its moisture-proof properties which ensure a perfectly straight deck for years to come – There is no risk of rotting or warping like a traditional timber sub frame.

Contemporary organic shapes
Part of the fun of building and renovating is the material selection, Jasmin on ResortDeck:

With a daybed and water feature as their key focal point in their 1910s courtyard, Luke and Jasmin cleverly created
lots of different zones, from a firepit, outdoor deck to their pool area. ResortDeck Seasalt was selected as it blended
naturally and pulled all the different outdoor zones together.

JIMMY & TAM 1950’S – POOL & ALFRESCO
Modern meets retro
Jimmy and Tam took the Palm Spring references from the front into their back courtyard area. Using ResortDeck in
SeaSalt for their back courtyard as the perfect complement to their pastel hue accents and design features
throughout the house. Mineral Tiles were also used around the pool area, with the extra added bonus of having a
high non-slip rating. As with all houses, QwickBuild was used as the structural sub-frame.
